Simbhaoli Sugar Mills Cash Profits Jump 848%, Plans Expansion

Mumbai: The Simbhaoli Sugar Mills Limited, having India’s largest stand-alone integrated sugar refinery complex at Simbhaoli (Ghaziabad,UP), has turned out exceptionally good performance for the year ended March 31, 2005. The company’s cash profit has increased 848% with net sales recording a 69% growth during 2004 – 05.

With a sterling performance during last fiscal, Simbhaoli Sugar Mills has emerged as one of the leading sugar company with gross turnover of Rs.500 crore plus. The gross turnover recorded by the company during last year touched Rs.509.42 crores as against Rs.338.99 crores during 2003 – 04 and sales (net of excise) including other income achieved by the Company at Rs. 395.33 crores is 69% higher than Rs 233.34 crores recorded for 2003-04.

Thanks to the realization of higher unit price and concentration on production of value-added products, the company’s profit before exceptional item and tax has touched Rs. 46.80 crores as against a loss of Rs. 6.37 crores in 2003-04 and profit after tax and exceptional items reaching Rs. 11.85 crores as against a loss of Rs. 4.08 crores during the previous year.

The Company had imported 71,000 tonnes of raw sugar for processing during last fiscal. Now the Company has plans to process a total over one-lakh tonnes of raw sugar during sugar year 2005-06 through energy saving measures.

Further, the Simbhaoli Sugar Mills Ltd. (SSML) expanding crushing capacity to 9500 TCD so that , in addition to 750 MT of refined sugar production capacity , raw sugar of 200 Metric Tonnes is produced per day at steam consumption of 36%. This will enable the unit to run its refinery for 240 days in a year processing in house and imported raw sugar for extended period of 100 days after completing the normal cane available. Further, the Company is expanding Chilwaria plant capacity to 6000 TCD and increasing co-generation of 8 MW/hr to 17 MW/hr and establishing raw sugar processing facilities for off-season. It is increasing the distillery capacity to 90 KL/day from 75 KL/day . It is also establishing Thermo-philic type Bio-Digester to increase the Bio-Methanization to 500 m 3 per day in Distillery Division. |

| Through modernization and expansion process, SSML has grown to 7500 TCD capacities. In the year 2003-04 the entire facility at Simbhaoli unit was converted to integrated sugar refinery producing 750 MT of refined sugar per day by using the latest DRPIE process technology. The sugar refinery produces EC-1 and EC-2 grade sugar with less than 45 i.u. Due to premium quality of sugar, the Company has developed valued customers like Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Dabur, Heinz, Hamdard and sweet manufacturers like Haldiram, Bikanerwala , Aggarwal Sweets chain etc |

For the retail market the Company has its own 1 Kg and 5 Kg packs under the brand name ‘TRUST’.In the year 2004-05 SSML started producing 100 MT of Pharma grade sugar. The unit is also producing specialty sugar like Table Sugar, sugar cubes, coffee sugar (Demerara). These are being launched in the market. |

SSML unit utilizes its co-products very efficiently. Since 1995 Bagasse-based co-generation of power has been initiated at 5 MW/hr. The export of power is being made to the national grid |

Simbhaoli Sugar Complex has a distillery. Which was started in 1947. Now the distillery which is an integral part of the complex, has a 75 KLPD Rectified Spirit production capacity. It has a product mix of 60 KL/D Ethanol – power alcohol which is being mixed with petrol and 20 KL/D Extra Neutral Alcohol- a special category spirit used in premium IMFL products. 1 MW of co-generation facility and 40 Ton of CO 2 (Carbon Dioxide) per day , which is marketed as dry ice. Being a potable distillery it has many liquor brands in country liquor segment as well as IMFL segment.
